Zaboo Mosaic
 

I discovered mosaics 25 years ago while working with some friends on large mosaic projects to support myself while completing my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (majoring in sculpture) in Durban, South Africa.

 

At the end of my 7 years in South Africa, I returned to my home country in Mauritius, where I began my teaching career as an art teacher in various international secondary schools and the University of Mauritius.

 

It is during that time, that I took a deeper interest in mosaic as a medium for my personal artistic expression, and it became an extention to my sculpting background.

 

Mosaic has enabled me to explore my interest in textures and natural forms. For me, an artwork shouldn't just be admired from afar but should be inviting enough to make the viewers want to touch it and feel the materials and the textures. My work is a blend of organic forms and tactile manmade and natural materials that celebrates the world around me in an abstract style.
